Product Review: Fly Trophy Helmet

Here at Off-Road.com we spend a lot of time riding and driving off road vehicles to bring you the reader in depth reviews and opinions, this means that we spend a lot of time wearing helmets. Over the past year I have used the Fly Trophy as my primary helmet, it has seen more than its fair share of abuse and cool locations. It has been high in the Rocky mountains snowmobiling to low in the Arizona desert in sidexsides and about every other imaginable location in between. After more than a year of use here is our opinion on this lid.

I originally purchased the Fly Trophy based on its awesome looks, the matt white and grey color scheme caught my eye in the dealership and I was surprised by its affordable $140 price tag. The fit worked great with my head shape well and I have never felt any discomfort wearing the helmet. I used this helmet all last season snowmobiling and made it slightly warmer by using electrical tape to cover the inside of the chin vent. Come summer time I ripped off the tape and was back in business again.

This helmet looks fantastic and I have received more compliments on the looks of this helmet than any other helmet I have ever owned. However the matt white paint job does get a bit dirty and grubby looking and I have been unable to clean it back to new looking condition. The Trophy also comes in some gloss paint schemes that stay looking new longer. The venting on the helmet is good but the rear vents are not very solid and at times goggle straps will get caught underneath the vent when taking off goggles. One vent also fell off, but that was after about a year of abuse.

For $140 you really can’t go wrong with this helmet, it is SNELL and DOT approved and offers great looks and fit. With as hard a life as my helmets have I would rather spend half as much and replace the helmet twice as often rather than going with a higher priced helmet.

What we like:

Great looks and fit

What we don’t like:

Matte finish doesn’t age well; finicky vents.

Overall:

High end helmet features at an affordable price.
