Those little seeds of guilt our mothers so carefully planted, so many years ago, germinate and flower on this night of nights. We will feel obliged to make all sorts of silly promises and sincere oaths. Some will resolve to quit smoking or lose weight, others to spend more quality time with their families and less in pursuit of the Golden Goose. Whatever the resolution, few will keep them, and most will forget them before the next day's hangover fades to a painful memory. Keeping our own resolutions is difficult enough. But, this year I'm getting tough on all you slouches and derelicts out there, and insisting you add a few of mine to your list. As we all should know, our precious Dunes came perilously close to being closed with the passage of Senate Bill S/21. It was only after a barrage of lobbying, and a giant sell out on the part of the American Motorcycle Association to the liberal hags Boxer and Fienstien, that the area between Hwy 78 and Interstate 8 was removed from wilderness designation and returned to the tenuous "wildlife study" status. The tree huggers and nature Nazis have not forgotten us, they will be back, soon, and with a vengeance. We are our own worst enemies in this battle. Our lack of consideration for our area and the other guests has reached a critical state. Our own actions have been photographed, cataloged
and documented and will be used to shut down the fun.
This year I'm resolving to be a better Off
Roader, to treat our OHV areas like the precious resources they
are, and to treat my fellow riders with the respect and
consideration they deserve. I also expect all of you to
participate.
