Terms like
“long-travel” have never been more appropriate than
with the 2000 Polaris Scrambler 400 2x4, whose FOX Shox-equipped
rear suspension has an incredible 10.5 inches of travel. This rear
suspension combines with the Scrambler 400 2x4’s other
standard components- including a Polaris 400 engine and automatic
PVT transmission.
The Scrambler 400 2x4 uses the Polaris-exclusive
Concentric Drive System (CDS), which aligns the swing arm’s
pivot point with the center of the drive sprocket. The rear
suspension is not affected by engine torque, so a Scrambler 400 2x4
rider enjoys the full 10.5 inches of rear suspension travel. The
Polaris CDS design also results in a consistent chain tension,
reducing chain wear and decreasing considerably the need for chain
adjustment or maintenance.
The Polaris 400 engine is a 2-stroke,
liquid-cooled powerplant with a 34mm Mikuni carburetor, oil
injection, and CD ignition. Its power is delivered to the drive
wheels consistently, as conditions warrant, thanks to the automatic
PVT (Polaris Variable Transmission). This dual-sensing transmission
responds to engine RPM and vehicle torque load, and reacts quickly
and efficiently to changes in off-road conditions. E-Z Shift lets a
rider conveniently select between forward and reverse.
The
long-travel MacPherson strut front suspension has 8.2 inches of
travel, and gives the Scrambler 400 2x4 a turning radius of 60
inches. Stopping power is provided by single-lever, allwheel
hydraulic disc brakes and a hydraulic rear foot brake.
The
Scrambler 400 2x4 has full floorboards, a quartz halogen headlight,
brake light, neutral and reverse indicator lights, and a 4-gallon
fuel tank.
