TEAM who? TEAM Industries has been producing ATV axles for OEM's since 1985.TEAM produces more than 500,000 axles annually. These axles are made to exact specifications provided by the OEM's. TEAM has been building some products since 1967. So while they are no newcomer to the business they ARE new to the aftermarket. TEAM recently decided to take their expertise and expand in to the aftermarket with some top of the line axles and hubs for the aftermarket and racing enthusiast.

Currently available are Axles and hubs for the 250R, 400EX, 300EX, Z400 and KFX 400, Scrambler, Raptor, Warrior, Banshee, and multiple bolt pattern hubs for the Polaris Predator. The axles are are all high strength heat treated steel with hard coated finishes. They feature the same spline profile on all axles so that the hubs are interchangeable. The hubs are made from forged aluminum. The axles come with spacers so that you can adjust your wheel width as needed. The hub and axles combination is stronger yet lighter than stock configurations.

We acquired a new Team industries axle for our new 440EX. With the extra horsepower we are putting the 440EX through some abuse on the race track that it was not accustomed to. We wanted to put in a stronger axle than stock and also get a little extra width to match our front suspension. We also really like the interchangeable hubs that TEAM offers.. For our 400EX we ordered an extra set of Raptor hubs so that we can install all our of Raptor wheels and tires on the 440EX as needed.

Installation

  1. Place your ATV up on a stand to make it easier. We used our Motorsportsproducts.com Pro ATV stand. With the 440EX on the stand we removed the brake caliper.
  2. Now you need to loosen the axle nut. We left the wheels and tires on for this until we had it loose. We used a 24" and a 18" adjustable wrench to get it loose. After it is loose you can go ahead and remove your tires and wheels and then your right side hub. Also remove your chain and loosen your sprocket bolts while it is still mounted.
  3. Loosen the swingarm adjuster/tension bolts and then you are ready to remove the stock axle.
  4. Slide the stock axle out to the left with brake rotor and right hub removed.
  5. Make sure everything is clean an ready for your next axle. Install some high temp grease on the TEAM axle at the bearing points then go ahead and slide it in from the left.
  6. With the new TEAM axle in place you can reinstall your brake rotor on the right side.
  7. Now reinstall your axle nut with the new c-clip provided by TEAM. Tighten it down to the specs provided by Honda.
  8. Install your sprocket on the Team axle and sprocket carrier. Make sure to use lock tight here.
  9. Install your sprocket on the Team axle and sprocket carrier. Make sure to use lock tight here.
  10. In less than two hours we had our new TEAM Industries axle installed in our 440EX. We did find that we had to use the provided lug nuts as the stock ones did not work on the TEAM hubs.

Summary The TEAM Industries axle looks to be a very high quality piece. We really like the interchangeable hubs although it would have been nice if the stock lug nuts were useable. We have already swapped hubs a couple times so that we could try some different tires mounted on our Raptor rims. We have completed two races on the TEAM axle, one WORCS race and one NDRA 100 mile scramble which was a brutally rough race course. We have had no problems and the hubs have stayed tight. The axle has started to loose some of the bright finish after being beat up out in the desert but that is too be expected. We believe the TEAM industries axle provides an excellent option for enthusiast or racer with a modified quad. The interchangeable hubs could provide some options and save you some money on wheels if you already have some with a different bolt pattern. We give it two thumbs up!
