With all the performance modifications that Project Raptor has seen in the last several months we were more than ready for some suspension upgrades. In fact we would highly recommend suspension mods BEFORE you perform major performance modifications. We had originally planned to do suspension work first but the large hole in the bottom of our crankcase impacted our plans. (Literally!) We turned to Alba Action Sports for a set of their newly developed ProComp A-Arms for the Yamaha Raptor. The ProComp arms are 2" wider and 1" further forward. They are made from a lightweight chromolloy steel and have a lifetime warranty. What I really like about the proComp arms are the Lager made custom ProComp balljoints. These are not the standard off the shelf balljoint. They are performed so as to allow complete range of travel with no binding. They also fit right in your current spindle and do not require spindle reaming. Alba did not stop there though. They also built the a-arms so that camber can be adjusted with jamb nuts. You do not have to remove your ball joint, adjust, then reassemble like you have to do with most a-arms on the market. This sure makes setting up the front end much easier and quicker.
Installation The installation process is straight forward and the only special tool you may need would be a fork for separating the ball joints from the spindle. If you purchase new bushings the whole process will even go easier. You can use your old bushings but it can sometimes be a challenge getting them out without damaging them. The other item you will need is some extended brake lines. We ordered a set of Galfer lines in blue. We will have full details on these lines next month.
Before proceeding with the other side we wanted to see the difference between the stock setup and the new setup. The new Alba ProComp arms allowed considerably more travel than the stock setup. In fact it allowed almost 3" more travel. It needs to be noted though, that this is on the jack without tires and without tie rods attached.
