Custom Airbox cover for Project Raptor - EHS Racing ATV AirBox Covers

Do you want the performance that comes from running without an airfbox cover, or better protection for your air filter? If you are like me this is a tough decision. Many sport quad owners run their machines without airbox covers and have done so for years without problems. But that said, there must be a reason the manufacturers ship every quad with an airbox cover... The good news is that we found an interesting solution to this problem, with a new product developed by EHS Racing's Eric Sutton. Eric has developed a very trick modified airbox cover for the Honda 400EX, 300EX, 250R, and the Yamaha Raptor and Blaster. He will soon have kits for many more models. He starts with a stock airbox cover then adds a custom aluminum face plate, a custom Outwewears filter, and stainless steel cap screws, nuts , and washers. You can purchase the kit only if you have a decent set of tools, or you can purchase it complete with an OEM airbox cover. Eric guarantees satisfaction with every cover or your money back.
Make/Model Colors Kit Kit on OEM Cover
Honda 400EX red/black/yellow $46 $60
Yamaha Raptor blue/black $46 $60
Honda 250R red/blue/black/yellow $46 $72
Yamaha Blaster black/blue $46 $60
Honda 300EX red/black $46 $60

We contacted Eric and ordered up a complete Raptor kit in blue. We were jetted for no airbox lid, although a little on the rich side, so no jetting modifications would be necessary. If you are running a complete lid now you will need to re-jet your quad for use with this kit.
New EHS kit for Yamha Raptor
The underside of airbox with EHS kit installed.
Starting with a trial fit we found that the air box lid in stock form did not fit with the GYT-R filter kit. It would need some modification on the bottom side to clear the larger air filter. This has nothing to do with the EHS product itself.
Bottom side is made to hold stock filter in place.
Trim down the back side so new GYT-R filter has clearance.
Next we needed to transfer the snorkle from our original airbox lid to the modified EHS lid. Before installing we wanted to make a modification. The stock snorkle has two flaps in the air inlet. As per reccomendations from our friends at Dynojet, we removed these two flaps to allow additional air flow through the snorkle.

With the modified snorkle attached to the EHS lid, we could now complete the installation. The new lid looks excellent! Initial testing showed that we would be ok with our current jetting, but after a long ride Project Raptor showed signed of richness at mid to high RPM. It was definately not running as rich as when the original air box lid was on but flow seemed to be restricted some over running without any lid at all. With a new GYT-R header pipe ready for install we decided we should install that and try the Raptor before going down a size in jets.
New EHS kit and modified snorkel are ready for install.
The EHS cover looks awesome!
