Editors Note: Just days ago we received our Yamaha Rhino Test unit. Over the next several months we will be putting the Rhino through its paces in all sorts of terrain. Also follow our coverage as we do a full Rhino Project build up and accessorize it with all the goodies. This is not just a "test unit" - within days of the initial press launch, ORC senior staff had decided to buy one outright. With personal money on the line, look for reviews of the Rhino to be brutally honest, and Project Build Up to be thorough. November 15 - 2003 - Yamaha has created another winner. With unprecedented ride comfort, tons of room for two adults and all their gear, the sure-footedness of a mountain goat and the agility of a rock crawling jeep, this little rig ROCKS! We took it up some of the nastiest, rock-strewn canyons in our area, up and down steep hills and even over a jump or two. The Rhino never complained or seemed to be at its limits. Never once did the rig feel "tippy" and it never felt underpowered. Braking power via the engine and the gaggle of disc brakes is superb and predictable.
This is the perfect "do-all" utility ATV. It's perfect for the hunting crowd, it'll be a great pit vehicle at the races and it will certainly find a home at the dunes. When it gets back home it'll help with the chores around your property. The ATV aftermarket industry will have a field day with the Rhino. We can't wait to see what they come up with. My first thought is a nice winch, cranking stereo, some HID lights, billet bead-lock rims and bigger tires...
I am glad I put dibs on this ride way ahead of time, or there would have been blood spilled among ORC staff. Related Story: Press Intro - A beast by any name!
