Is your ATV ready for hunting season? Well it is September and that time of year in most parts of the country. Last season we were getting ready for rifle season and were looking for the best way to protect our rifle when carrying it on our ATV. We had seen allot of those simple V shaped racks mounted to the front of ATV's but we really were not a big fan of this type of rack. There is a couple reasons. 1) We wanted to have our rifle more protected from the elements. In our part of the country the weather becomes very unpredictable in the fall. We wanted to be able to keep our rifle high and dry when we got a downpour or even a snow storm. 2) With the rifle out in the open we felt it was very liable to get knocked or ripped off by brush or trees. We have spent allot of money on a good rifle and scope and don't want to see it banged around.

After allot of looking around we settled on the Kolpin Gun Boot IV and Gun Boot IV Boottector Mounting Bracket and ordered both up from Rocky Mountain ATV. They set us back about $125 with shipping and were here in just a couple days.
A couple unbolts later and our Gun Boot bracket was mounted.
First up was to get the mounting bracket on our Suzuki KingQuad.
We mounted our on the forward part of the rear rack such that the Gun Boot would be inside the fenders and the front of the rifle would be sloped downward toward the foot wells of the KingQuad. Each ATV rack will be a little different but the Kolpin bracket has a variety of holes to fit most any ATV rack. It only took us about 10 minutes to get the bracket in place.

The Gun Boot will act as a storage case for your rifle when not mounted in the bracket on the ATV. It is very strong and is even airline approved. It has a a plush pile lining that fits inside the high density polyethylene shell. We really like this feature as it makes it very easy to carry your rifle in your transport vehicle until you get to the ATV unloading location.
There is a large adjuster knob to allow you to tilt the boot at the correct angle. Just above is one of the two clips to hold boot in bracket.

Now we have the cover installed over the butt. One clip allows you access to your rifle and it is completely protected from the elements.
Summary
After using the Kolpin Gun Boot IV all last hunting season we can highly recommend this product. While it is more expensive that a simple V type mount we feel it is well worth the money.
