In 2005 the Northwest Quad Nationals was introduced with a 4 race series held at Pacific Raceways in Auburn, WA. While the 2005 series did include pit bikes this was the first QUAD ONLY series in the northwest and was an immediate success with some rounds having over 200 entries. | | Series promoter Bob Lattimar | For 2007 NW Quad Nationals presented by Fantom Z ATV is bigger than ever with more races and more tracks and the traditional MX only series now includes two GP races. The 2007 NW Quad Nationals is actually setup as two different point series and three different point championships. The series takes place over 9 weekends at 5 different tracks all in Washington State. ATV racers can compete in the Saturday Series, the Sunday series, or they can ride both days and compete for the Super Series Championship. Round 1 at Horn Rapids ORV The series kicked off the 2007 season at Horn Rapids ORV park in Richland, WA and Off-Road.com was there to take the action in. While there were several different races in the northwest conflicting with round 1, entries were very strong. We counted approximately 112 entries on Saturday which puts this series close in size to the ITP/Yamaha QuadCross series held in California and Arizona. Duncan Racing Suzuki rider Drew Lattimar dominated the competition in the Pro and Pro Am races. By the end of the day on Saturday all the riders were looking to see what Drew had ate for breakfast on Saturday morning. Whatever it was they were having the same thing on Sunday. Lattimar would win every moto except one when he got tangled in a corner with another rider. Lattimar would have to go to the pits, change a flat and return to finish that moto. That win would go to Reed Petchnick from Kent, WA | | Drew Lattimar out front of the competition. |
In the amateur classes Tammy Balser from Port Angeles Washington must have ate at the same place as Lattimar as she dominated the Women's A class on Saturday then chose to focus her efforts on beating the guys on Sunday. Tammy finished 2nd in Production B on Sunday leaving many of the guys in her dust. Only local racer Joey Green could best her racing on his home track. | | Tammy Balser had her A game on all weekend. |
The minis were also at Horn Rapids in force. Extreme Mini Quads will be giving away a quad at the end of the season and the mini quad riders were there going after it. It is amazing how fast some of the 70cc machines are. DRR rider Cody Engelhart did a very impressive job over the weekend. | | Cody Engelhart was flying around the track on his 70cc DRR machine. |
The blaster classes also had a very strong showing at Horn Rapids. Cole Fite had a great weekend in both the Blaster class and the shifter classes.

Only WORCS ATV Nationals and the Quadcross series are currently larger on the west coast. If you are a quad racer in the northwest this is the series to showcase your talent. Maybe you can even earn a number 1 plate for the 2008 season.
