Josh Daniel powered his twin-turbo truck to victory this past weekend.

Josh Daniel made headlines after building his unique twin-turbo racetruck. Daniel went out and proved the truck could also perform by taking the pole position for BITD Desert Bluewater Desert Challenge leading up to the weekend. Showing that qualifying wasn’t a fluke, he went out earned his first-ever win in the Trick Truck class during the two-day race. Finishing Saturday with a lead of more than 4 minutes, Daniel simply had only to hold off his competitors to clench the win for the weekend.

“We knew what we had to do,” Daniel said at the finish. “We just had to hold them off to get the win for the weekend, and that’s all we wanted to do. Rob Mac was coming hard and we knew if held him up long enough he wouldn’t be able to put enough time on us to take the win. We eventually let him by at the end there just so we didn’t have to punish our truck too much to stay ahead. We’re really happy to get this first win and would like to thank everyone who helps us out.”

Rob MacCachren filled in for Steve Olliges and nearly earned the Trick Truck win, but poor visibility made it tough for him to make up the necessary ground on leader Josh Daniel.

Just behind Daniel was the entry of Steve Olliges in the #27 Trick Truck, with Rob MacCachren behind the wheel on day two to fill in for Olliges. “We did our best out there,” MacCachren said, who drove day 2 for Olliges. “The holes out there were huge and the dust was just hanging. I think if we just had a little wind we would’ve been able to get around Josh and take a run at the overall win, but visibility was zero at some parts and that really slowed us down.”

Harley Letner earned the win in 1500 at the Bluewater Desert Challenge.

A very happy Carl Beal crossed the line for a third place finish on the weekend. “We had a great time out there,” Beal said. “I just want to thank my team, God and my dad Carty “Gramps” for the opportunity. It was a lot of fun!”

Jason Voss had a tough weekend in Parker, but he still has the Trick Truck Championship well in hand.

Jason Voss, current points leader in Trick Truck, didn’t have a very good race, but with his current standing in the points he only had to start this race and the next to clinch the Trick Truck points championship. “We didn’t have the best day out there,” Voss said. “We had some overheating issues but we made the finish and that’s what counts. This will be our throwaway race so we’re fine. We’ll see everyone at Henderson later this year. We’ll go for the win there.”

Best in the Desert takes a short break until the final race of the season at the Henderson 250 on December 5th. For more information, visit http://www.bitd.com/.
