Few things can improve the ride quality and the traction of your vehicle when off-road than airing down, but the biggest frustration of doing so lay in the tedious process of actually having to air up and air down every trip. There are some complex and very cool on-board air systems designed to speed up the process, but most of us Average Joes can get by with a decent air compressor and a tire gauge.

Recently, we came across a product designed to simplify the airing down process, J.T. Brooks Automatic Tire Deflators. The J.T. Brooks tire deflators come in a set of four to allow for quick and accurate air-down of all four tires practically at the same time before you hit the trails. The deflators are made in the U.S.A. and are constructed of brass but feature nickle-plated coating for durability, and a stainless-steel internal spring and O-ring seal will ensure the longevity and accuracy of each deflator that can be set from 6 to 32 PSI. Although the J.T. Brooks deflators are available for purchase individually, we tested a kit of four that also includes set-up instructions and a storage pouch.

We ventured out to a local trail to test the J.T. Brooks deflators, curious to see if they worked as simply as described. We followed the included instruction card, we quickly learned how to adjust the initial PSI setting on each valve to our desired 22 PSI air pressure. For more aggressive adventures we’d certainly air down lower, but our test vehicle wasn’t equipped with beadlocks and we simply wanted to improve the ride quality and traction of our SUV.

Take a look at any off-road parts catalog and you’ll find a number of parts that exceed the $100 mark – or even the $1000 mark. We’re always on the lookout for useful items that make off-roading more enjoyable but don’t break the bank in the process. With an MSRP of $69.95, the J.T. Brooks deflators are inexpensive but also very useful. At that price, we’d be inclined to have more than one set on hand – maybe one at 12 PSI for tougher trails and another at 20 PSI to just soften the ride on smoother roads.

We appreciate the construction of the J.T. Brooks deflators as well as their durability, which we accidentally tested when we dropped a few of the deflators. We’re fans of the automatic tire deflators from J.T. Brooks and know we’ll get plenty of use out of them in the months to come.
